Unveiled at D. Treffen, VW's annual European EV owner's meet-up in Locarno, Switzerland, the new concept is based on the ID.4 GTX.

The rugged exterior matches. The ID.XTREME has ID.4 roots, but its 50-mm wider 3D-printed wings give it a more purposeful stance.

The concept sits on 18-inch wheels with chunky tires, and the aluminum underbody is sealed. Along with the front push bar and "rally" suspension, the ID.XTREME has a roof carrier with LED lights.

ID.XTREME features a new driving noise piped outside via a speaker in the wheel housing. Inside, but not pictured, are new seats with Alcantara and orange accents.

The concept is based on an old test vehicle and uses a used 82 kWh battery pack. Although we may never see a production version of the off-road concept, VW seems to be taking feedback seriously.

"We're excited to see how electromobility fans respond to the car." We'll decide how to proceed based on community feedback, says VW's MEB Product Line Head Silke Bagschik.
