Subaru "New SUV" debuts on September 15th

Subaru's latest crossover will launch in Japan on September 15.

The 480p teaser video reveals skinny headlights with bright LEDs.

C-shaped taillights, fender flares, and a sloping beltline are also visible. Single-bar grille, circular fog lights, and short rear end combine them.

Subaru calls the car a "new SUV" Motor1 speculates it's the revamped Crosstrek. Given the size, cladding, and Impreza-like appearance, that seems likely.

The latest Crosstrek/XV was debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and facelifted for 2021. Subaru sold 127,466 Crosstreks in the U.S. last year, nearly four times as many as Imprezas.

The current Crosstrek sports a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Customers can also choose a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque.

Subaru's plug-in hybrid has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and an 8.8 kWh battery pack. This offers the car 148 horsepower (110 kW / 150 PS) and a 17-mile electric-only range (27 km).
