When you buy a car, you're buying more than four wheels and a drivetrain. That's never been truer than now. Land Rover North America has brought back the Defender Trophy Edition, which allows buyers to enter an off-road competition.

The limited edition SUV is back for 250 more units. 220 will be sold in the U.S., 30 in Canada. All come in a yellow heritage wrapper.

The Defender Trophy Edition honors Land Rover's rich and iconic heritage, said Jaguar Land Rover North America CEO Joe Eberhardt. "We look forward to welcoming our Defender Trophy Edition customers to test these vehicles at the exclusive adventure competition."

The Defender Trophy Edition adds a special wrap, a trophy badge, extended black exterior package, a tow hitch receiver, air suspension pack, cold climate pack, off-road pack, and advanced off-road ability pack to the 2023 Land Rover Defender 90 P400 X-Dynamic SE.

It comes with an expedition roof rack, a deployable roof ladder, an electronic winch and accessories, front and rear mudflaps, an integrated air compressor, deep-sided floor mats, and loading area mats.

The benefits go beyond what's on the vehicle. Trophy Edition Defender buyers also get a one-day, two-person off-road adventure in their vehicle.

In Manchester, Vermont, competitors will face on- and off-road tests of vehicle control and teamwork. Winners will be invited to the Classic Land Rover Trophy Competition in the U.K. in spring 2023.

Not every Defender Trophy Edition buyer can compete. Land Rover is offering 90 first-come, first-served spots for the off-road challenge, so buyers shouldn't wait. Owners of the 2021 model can also enter the Trophy Competition for $5,000 per team.

Six waves of 15 teams begin on Oct. 8, 2022. The Defender Trophy Edition is $96,475 (including $1,475 destination fee) in the U.S. and CAD$115,400 ($89,111) in Canada (before destination).
