In France, the facelifted DS 7 E-Tense costs €78,400

The facelifted DS 7 Crossback debuted last June with new styling, more tech, and a more powerful plug-in hybrid. Now, the French SUV goes on sale in Europe, with prices ranging from €44,700-78,400 (approximately $45,438-79,695) depending on the powertrain and trim.

DS Automobiles announced indicative prices for the DS 7 in France and launched the configurator. Following market trends, prices have risen over the outgoing model.

DS 7 BlueHDi 130 Automatic Bastille: €44,700 ($45,438) DS 7 E-Tense 225 Performance Line: €55,100 ($56,010) DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 300 Rivoli: €58,300 ($59,344) DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 300 Opera: €64,600 ($65,667) DS 7 E-Tense 4×4 360 La Premiere: €78,400 ($79,695)

Nearly €80k seems high for a premium compact SUV. The flagship DS 7 costs more than the larger BMW X3 xDrive30e PHEV (€62,250), approaching the entry-level BMW X5 (from €74,600).

The French SUV is more powerful than the Alfa Romeo Tonale, BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The aforementioned SUVs are expected to be cheaper than the less powerful DS 7 E-Tense 225. Peugeot 3008 GT is €10k cheaper than the equivalent DS 7, but DS is a premium brand.

The facelifted DS 7 range is dominated by electrified powertrains, aside from the base 1.5-liter BlueHDi diesel. All use a turbo 1.6-liter petrol engine combined with one or two electric motors and a 14.2 kWh battery offering up to 65 km (40 miles) of EV-only range.

The FWD-only E-Tense 225 has 222 hp (166 kW / 225 PS), while the 44 E-Tense 300 has 296 hp (220 kW / 300 PS). E-Tense 44 360 has 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS).

The latter accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and has lowered suspension, wider tracks, and larger brakes.

There is no mention of the 1.2 Puretech and 1.6 Puretech petrol engines said to be in the updated DS 7, though their availability may be limited to certain markets.

All E-Tense PHEVs come standard with the DS Active Scan Suspension, which uses a camera to optimize wheel damping. Standard on electrified DS 7 models are a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.

All trims except Bastille and Performance Line come standard with the facelifted DS Pixel Led Vision 3.0 headlights and DS Light Veil DRLs.

Each trim has different 18- to 21-inch wheels and interior color and trim options, including Peruzzi Bronze Cloth (Bastile), Deep Black Alcantara (Performance Line), Basalt Black Leather (Rivoli), and Nappa/Grain Leather (Opera).

The DS 7 Opera has heated, massaging, and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, an electric panoramic sunroof, and laminated acoustic side windows.

La Premiere has 21-inch Brooklyn alloy wheels, DS Performance badges, and gloss black accents.

As the range's flagship, it comes standard with all the above features plus the premium Focal sound system, DS Night Vision, and the new DS Driver Attention Monitoring.

Facelifted DS 7s are made in Mulhouse, France for global markets and Shenzen, China for China.

The SUV will arrive in DS Stores in Europe on September 16, with customer deliveries beginning in December. DS Automobiles' current lineup includes the DS 3, DS 4, and DS 9 sedans.
